What happens if your Forex VPS restarts?
Your Forex VPS is built to run untouched around the clock, but a restart happens now and then — a Windows update, rare host maintenance, or a reboot you trigger yourself from the dashboard. The good news: with a couple of settings in place, a restart is something you barely notice.
Does my terminal come back on its own?
MetaTrader can be set to launch automatically when Windows starts and log straight back into your broker account. Configured this way, after a reboot the terminal reopens, reconnects, reloads your charts and templates, and your Expert Advisors re-attach and resume trading — with no action from you. We're happy to help you set this up so a restart is a non-event.
Will I lose my open trades?
No. Your open positions and pending orders live on your broker's servers, not on the VPS — so they are never lost when the VPS reboots. When your terminal reconnects, it simply syncs the current state from the broker. This is the single most important thing to understand: your trades are always safe on the broker side.
Will my EA keep its state?
EAs that work from open positions and broker data pick up seamlessly. EAs that store state in local files or global variables should be written to persist and reload it — most commercial EAs already do this. If yours keeps critical state in memory only, enable its own recovery/persistence option so it survives a restart.
Controlling Windows updates
You control your own VPS, so you can schedule Windows update restarts for a quiet market hour — for example over the weekend — so they never interrupt an active session. Set your 'active hours' in Windows Update to match your trading window and Windows will avoid restarting during it.
