MT4 vs MT5 — which should you run?

Both MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 come preinstalled on every VPS, so you can run either — or both at once. The right choice usually comes down to your broker and your Expert Advisors.

Choose MT4 if

• Your broker only offers MT4, or your account is an MT4 account.
• Your EA or indicator is written for MT4 (.ex4/.mq4) — most legacy EAs are.
• You trade mainly forex and want the largest ecosystem of ready-made tools.

Choose MT5 if

• Your broker provides an MT5 account.
• You want more timeframes, an economic calendar, and depth-of-market.
• You trade stocks, futures or other exchange-traded instruments.
• Your EA is built for MT5 (.ex5/.mq5).
