Forex VPS for prop firm challenges (FTMO & funded accounts)
Prop firm trading — passing an evaluation with a firm like FTMO, then trading their funded capital — puts unusual demands on your setup. Your strategy has to run consistently against strict rules on drawdown, daily loss and trading windows. A Forex VPS is how serious prop traders keep that consistency, whether they trade manually or with an Expert Advisor.
Why a VPS matters for a challenge
- Uptime: your EA keeps trading through the whole evaluation — even when your PC is off, updating, or your home internet drops. A missed session or a frozen terminal can cost you the challenge.
- Latency: execution close to your broker's servers means tighter fills and less slippage, which protects the daily-loss and drawdown limits you're being measured on.
- Stability: dedicated resources mean your terminal isn't competing with a browser or games for CPU during a news spike.
- Discipline: the VPS runs your plan exactly as configured, 24/7, without the temptation to interfere.
Check your prop firm's rules first
Every firm sets its own policy on automation, VPS use and account sharing. Most reputable firms allow EAs and VPS hosting, but some restrict certain strategies (for example latency arbitrage or high-frequency tactics that exploit price feeds). Read your firm's terms before you automate — a VPS makes you more consistent, it does not override the rules of the challenge.
Setting it up
- Choose a plan sized to how many terminals you run — one funded account and one EA is light; several accounts or a portfolio of EAs needs more RAM and CPU.
- Connect via RDP and log in to your prop firm's MetaTrader build with your challenge credentials.
- Install and attach your EA, enable AutoTrading, and confirm your risk inputs match the firm's limits.
- Take a snapshot once it's configured, so you can roll back instantly if you change something mid-challenge.
- Use the 'Disconnect' shortcut (not Sign out) so your EA keeps running after you close the session.
