Which Forex VPS location should you choose?
The single biggest factor in your VPS latency is not the CPU, the RAM, or even the network speed — it is distance. Your orders travel through fibre at the speed of light, and even that takes real time: roughly 1ms for every 100km of cable, round trip. So the closer your VPS sits to your broker's matching engine, the faster your fills.
Latency is physics, not marketing
No provider can honestly promise 1ms to a broker on another continent — light simply cannot travel that far that fast. A VPS in New York reaches a New-York-hosted broker in about 1ms, but that same VPS is ~70ms from a London broker and ~230ms from one in Singapore. That is why location is the most important choice you will make — more than any spec on the plan.
Find out where your broker hosts its servers
Most brokers colocate their trade servers in one of the world's major financial data-center hubs. The big four for FX are:
- NY4 (New York / Equinix) — the busiest FX liquidity hub in the world; most major brokers and ECNs run their engines here.
- LD4 (London / Slough) — Europe's primary FX hub, home to a large share of UK and European brokers.
- FR2 (Frankfurt) — the key interconnect for DACH and continental-European brokers.
- SG1 (Singapore) — the gateway for Asia-Pacific FX flow and APAC liquidity providers.
Ask your broker's support which data center hosts their MT4/MT5 trade servers — many will tell you or publish it. Inside MetaTrader itself, the bottom-right of the terminal shows the live round-trip ping to your broker's server once you are connected.
Match your VPS region to your broker
The rule is simple: choose the VPS region in the same metro as your broker's servers. If your broker is in NY4, a New York VPS gives you ~1ms. If they are in LD4, you will want a London region, and so on. Running the terminal from your home PC instead typically adds 30–150ms or more — a lifetime for a latency-sensitive scalping EA, and a real risk of slippage and requotes.
