What makes a good Forex VPS for scalping and low-latency EAs
5 min readUpdated July 2026
Scalpers, news traders and high-frequency EAs win or lose on milliseconds. If your orders arrive late, you get slippage, requotes and worse fills — which quietly erodes a strategy that looked great in backtests. Choosing the right VPS is one of the few execution factors fully in your control.
What actually matters
- Proximity to your broker: latency is mostly distance. A VPS in the same data-center region as your broker's servers is the single biggest win — often cutting round-trip time from tens of milliseconds to low single digits.
- Dedicated CPU: scalping EAs need the terminal to react instantly on every tick. Shared, oversold CPU introduces jitter exactly when a fast market hits.
- Fast storage and memory: NVMe storage and DDR5 RAM keep the terminal and its history responsive under load.
- Network quality: a well-peered, DDoS-protected network avoids the packet loss and route changes that cause latency spikes.
- A real, stable IP: a dedicated IP with a clean route to your broker, not a shared address behind NAT.
What is mostly marketing
Be skeptical of blanket 'sub-1ms to any broker' claims. Physics sets a floor: a server in New York cannot reach a broker in London in under ~7ms, no matter how good the network — light in fibre isn't fast enough. Honest sub-1ms figures only apply when the VPS and the broker are in the same metro. Always match the VPS location to where your broker is actually hosted.
How to verify before you commit
- Ask your broker which data center hosts their MetaTrader servers (commonly NY4/Equinix for many major brokers).
- Pick the VPS region closest to that hub.
- After setup, measure real latency from the VPS to your broker (see our guide on measuring VPS latency) and keep it as your baseline.
- Re-check after any broker-server change — the closest server can shift.
Our New York location sits next to the NY4 hub, where many major brokers host their servers — so execution to those brokers is typically sub-1ms. For a broker hosted elsewhere, choose the region nearest them.
